Menopause & Anxiety: How Bach flower remedies can help

Are you one of the many women struggling with menopause symptoms? Are you feeling anxious and overwhelmed? If so, you're not alone. But don't worry, there is help. Bach flower remedies can be a great natural remedy for anxiety and other menopause symptoms. Read on to find out how they can help you feel better.

Menopause and Anxiety

Menopause can be a stressful time for many women, and it often brings feelings of anxiety. For women experiencing menopause, difficulty sleeping, hot flashes, and low libido are a few of the many physical and emotional changes they may be facing. Although menopause is a natural part of life and can bring with it freedom from menstrual cycles and worrying about pregnancy, some women experience menopausal anxiety. In some cases, menopause can worsen pre-existing anxiety or lead to panic attacks. In other cases, menopausal women may experience a sudden onset of anxious feelings they have never had before. Menopause anxiety often manifests as difficulty concentrating on tasks, feeling overwhelmed, spikes in heartbeat or respiration rate, sudden panic attacks, or a tightness in the chest.

While menopausal anxiety can be distressing, understanding that there are ways to manage these feelings can help to alleviate stress related to this transition. Self-care is paramount: exercise regularly; eat nutritious foods; look for things that bring joy; practice mindfulness; get enough sleep; talk openly with friends and family members — all are effective tactics to manage menopausal anxiety and create balance during this period of transformation. If you’re wanting support from natural remedies as well, Bach flower remedies may be worth a try.

Rather than letting menopause overwhelm or scare you away with its symptoms of anxiety – lean into it as an opportunity for growth and empowerment! By taking proactive steps towards managing your menopausal anxiety, you’ll come through on the other side feeling refreshed, resolute and realistically optimistic about your future.  The menopause journey doesn’t have to be accompanied by feelings of anxiousness if strategies such as self-care are in place to help manage them during this transitional phase.

What are Bach flower remedies and how do they work?

Bach flower remedies are natural flower remedies that can help emotional wellbeing. There are 38 different Bach flower remedies – each relating to a different emotion which has gone out of balance. Many people have heard of Rescue Remedy – this is a combination remedy of five flower remedies which is designed to be used in emergency situations. Many people have used this but don’t know about the wider range of flower remedies that may help more long term with mental health issues such as anxiety, depression, stress, confidence, sleeping issues and more.

Dr Bach created the flower remedy system in the 1930s and they’ve been used widely around the world ever since. Bach flower remedies are a safe, natural way to help relieve your anxiety and improve your quality of life during menopause. The remedies are made from a selection of high vibrational flowers, and they work by balancing your emotions and restoring equilibrium. If you're looking for an alternative to medication or to support other treatments, Bach flower remedies may be right for you.

At Mindful Remedies we offer the ability to create your own personalised flower remedy blend choosing up to seven flower remedies in a treatment bottle.

What are the most common Bach flower remedies for menopause and anxiety relief?

There are many different Bach flower remedies for anxiety. Below we explore some of the most popular.

Mimulus:

This is the Bach flower remedy for anxieties where there is a known fear or anxiety, for example health anxieties or a fear of flying.

Aspen:

Aspen is for fears or anxieties where this is no known cause. It’s a general sense of uneasiness or apprehension or always feeling on edge but you don’t know why.

White Chestnut:

This is the remedy for an overactive mind where you’re thinking non-stop and your brain is always on with no respite. This may be worrying or may simply thinking about things but can often co-occur with anxiety. This is a very helpful remedy for insomnia.

Red Chestnut:

Red Chestnut is the remedy for anxieties or fears that something bad will happen to a loved one. Worrying about our loved ones is, to an extent, natural but sometimes this may get out of proportion. This is where Red Chestnut is helpful.

Rock Rose:

This is the remedy for more extreme levels of terror, panic attacks or nightmares. This terror is at a very heightened state and can come out of nowhere.

Crab Apple:

This is the remedy for self-loathing or self-disgust where the person doesn’t like some aspect of themselves. This can manifest as a feeling of wanting to cleanse yourself or becoming obsessive about an aspect of yourself or your surrounding for example being very house proud or fussing about your looks. Whereas this isn’t specifically anxiety-related this can co-occur.

Elm:

Elm is the remedy for overwhelm due to pressure or responsibility. Again, this isn’t specifically anxiety related but can often be a trigger for anxiety or can manifest itself in this way. You need this remedy if you feel you can’t keep up with the demands or pace of life and feel temporarily inadequate due to the demands placed on you such as work or family commitments.

How to use Bach flower remedies for menopause and anxiety relief

Bach flower remedies are taken by mouth – a minimum of four drops, four times a day. They’re taken either directly into the mouth or you can add them to water. They shouldn’t be misunderstood for essential oils – they don’t smell! They do contain alcohol so will taste slightly of organic brandy, though you can request for them to be made without the alcohol base if you’d prefer them to be made without (though they will never be 100% alcohol free.)

Are there any side effects associated with Bach flower remedies for menopause and anxiety relief?

There are no side effects from taking Bach flower remedies. They are also vegan and allergen free (except for alcohol.)

Can Bach flower remedies be used in conjunction with other forms of treatment for menopause and anxiety relief, such as medication or therapy sessions?

Yes – they can be safely taken alongside existing medication, whether that be for anxiety or other health issues you might need medication for. They will not interact with pharmaceuticals or other natural or holistic practices you’re working with. They can often be complementary to other forms of mental health support and work in tandem.
